If aura farming has a single defining clip, it is a boy in black standing at the prow of a long wooden boat, arms sweeping, entirely unbothered by the fact that the boat is moving at speed and the world is watching.

Who he is

The dancer is Rayyan Arkan Dikha, an 11-year-old from Riau province in Indonesia. He is a *tukang tari* — the dancer who performs at the front of the boat during Pacu Jalur, a traditional rowing race held annually in the Kuantan Singingi region. Footage of his performance spread globally in July 2025 and was quickly labelled aura farming by audiences who had no idea what Pacu Jalur was.

Dikha told the BBC that he created the routine himself. Indonesian and international outlets including CNA covered both the clip and the tradition behind it.

Why the clip is perfect aura farming

It satisfies every rule of the format at once:

• Genuine difficulty. Balancing on the narrow prow of a racing boat is not a pose, it is a skill.
• Total under-reaction. No smile at the camera, no acknowledgement of the crowd.
• No self-scoring. He is not performing for the internet. The internet arrived afterwards.
• Third-party narration. The aura was awarded in the comments, which is the only place aura points can legitimately come from.

The imitations

Athletes and celebrities copied the arm movements through the second half of 2025, including NFL players and footballers performing it as a goal celebration. The imitations are a useful control group: performed in a stadium as a planned celebration, the same movement reads as a reference rather than aura. The moment stopped being aura farming the second it became rehearsed — the same trap that produces negative aura.

The tradition underneath it

Pacu Jalur predates the meme by roughly a century. The boats carry dozens of rowers, the races are a regional event in Kuantan Singingi, and the dancer at the prow has always been part of it. The internet did not invent the moment; it just finally noticed one.

Where it sits now
