The Glossary
Aura is the presence you give off and the impression you leave behind.
It isn't fame, followers or money. It's the thing that makes a room turn when someone walks in — confidence, style, composure and mystery, all read in a second. Online it's scored as a joke currency (+1000 aura, -1000 aura). Here it's scored for real: a live ranking decided by head-to-head votes.
01
Presence and reputation. 'He has aura' means people feel his arrival. This is the dominant meaning online and the one this site ranks.
02
A running joke tally: +1000 aura for a cold, composed moment, -1000 for public embarrassment. Aura as a game stat applied to real life.
03
An energy field said to surround a person, often described in colours. The oldest sense of the word, and unrelated to the slang usage.
04
In neurology, an aura is the sensory warning phase before a migraine or seizure — flashing lights, tingling, smells.
Aura gain
Aura loss
The pattern behind both columns: aura rewards composure and punishes visible effort. That's the whole framework we use to rank people — expanded into seven dimensions in The Aura Standard.
Aura is the presence someone gives off — the mix of confidence, style, composure and cool that decides how a room reacts to them. In slang it is treated as a score you can gain or lose through your actions, separate from looks, money or follower count.
Aura points are a joke currency. Doing something effortlessly cool earns '+1000 aura'; something embarrassing costs '-1000 aura'. The numbers are arbitrary — the point is a shared, instant judgement of presence.
Aura loss is any moment that visibly punctures someone's composure: over-explaining, chasing approval, getting caught trying, or breaking the character people expect from you.
No. The spiritual meaning describes an energy field around a body, often coloured, read in new-age and metaphysical practice. The slang meaning is entirely social — reputation and presence — and carries no claim about energy fields.
Not scientifically, but it can be judged collectively. The Aura 100 turns it into a ranking with head-to-head votes: every matchup shifts an Elo-style score, so the leaderboard reflects what a crowd actually believes rather than one editor's opinion.
